Our high-school programme provides a high-quality, direct entry into Education Queensland International (EQI) schools, in addition to dozens of award-winning catholic & independent Queensland secondary schools.

The Programme in Detail

The intensive Charlton Brown High School Preparation classes consist of 25 hours of face-to-face instruction per week.

Attention is given to developing all Macro-Skills (Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking) as students participate in theme-based study. Students will learn about Australian culture and school culture. Teachers will also equip students with the language skills they need to participate and succeed in the mainstream classroom, and students will also receive instruction in Math, Science, computer technology – in addition to skills for developing learner autonomy.

Particular focus is given to developing learner autonomy as Charlton Brown recognises the importance of student achievement outside of the HSP Program.

Students will have opportunity to write academic papers, give spoken presentations, participate in class activities and access our online learning resources. The continuous assessment of students’ learning will provide students with the feedback they need to be on track to enter the mainstream classroom at their expected date of entry.

Charlton Brown is committed to quality assurance.

Brisbane Course TRAINERS

Jessica Zerance

Jessica Zerance is the ELICOS Head of Faculty. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations and a Master’s Degree in Education with a focus in TESOL and Trauma Aware Education. She has 8 years’ experience teaching English. She has taught English to international students, migrants and refugees in Australia as well as overseas. Her experience in teaching language learners from a variety of language and cultural backgrounds allows her to quickly identify learners’ needs and provide the support necessary for students to achieve their goals. Jessica particularly enjoys helping students develop autonomy so that they can continue learning language outside the classroom. Her favourite langauge class to teach is Pronunciation.

Anne Evrat

Anne Evrat is Senior Teacher and Assessor for the HSP program at Charlton Brown. She has many years of experience teaching language acquisition both in Australia and overseas. Her most recent position was Senior Teacher in the EQI HSP program at Mitchelton State High School. Being in this position for 14 years, Anne developed a profound knowledge of proven best practice in preparing international students to achieve academic success in Australian high schools.

Anne is aware of ACARA curriculum requirements having played a pivotal role in the development of the current EQI HSP curriculum. She is very familiar with and able to deliver the high standard required for NEAS accreditation. Her ability to develop and implement targeted, effective resources used in both face-to-face and virtual programs is exceptional.

In her position at HSP, Anne liaised extensively with ISP and homestay coordinators and developed an awareness of managing the ongoing psychological and emotional care that is essential for an international student in Australia. She knows that supporting students to build confidence while transitioning to a new country and culture ensures the safety and wellbeing of students. She has also been a homestay provider.

With this background and wealth of experience, Anne is well positioned to ensure that the Charlton Brown curriculum and student management protocols meet or surpass all requirements and are well-resourced, effectively implemented and continuously improved.

Words cannot express accurately enough how grateful I am for having Fanny as my trainer during most of my Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care. The level of her service delivery was above and beyond my expectations, as well as her ethics and the knowledge and skill set she kindly shared with her students, always with a positive attitude, broad smile and gentleness that are her trademark.
